teamwork I play on a rec league inline hockey team here in the Colorado Springs area.  I took about three years off before starting up again two seasons ago.  When I quit, I was an above average silver league player, and an average gold league player.  After three years off, it seems that my skills have diminished greatly, and everybody else has sped up....WAY UP!  The bronze league is what silver used to be, and silver is faster than gold was...

So, after spending a season (six weeks) in bronze, my friend and I hitched a ride with some old teammates into 16 and older silver league...  our team was getting blown out of the water nightly, 9-3, 14-3, and so on.  We looked awful, the goals we did get were prayers, and I was beginning to wonder if I should drop back down to bronze.  We were defeated, we hadn't won a game through 9 games.  But something great happened at game 10, we scraped out a victory through hard fought sweat and teamwork.  It was by no means a blowout, but it was a win, and we were happy with that.

Something really amazing happened at game 11 though, we blew out a team 11-2, and it wasn't even that close.  Our fundamentals were down, we had good spacing on the floor, we had our sticks on the ground intercepting passes, our passing was crisp and clean, we controlled the puck, we had good shot selection, and our goalie was on fire.  This team beat us earlier in the year 12-3, and even has a semi pro player skating for them...which we held him scoreless in our rematch.

We do not have any standout players, nobody who would be categorized as a game changer, and yet we saw a dramatic shift in our performance...how could this be?  We were unselfish, we played fundamental hockey, we knew where each other would be, we weren't just a collection of guys on the floor, we have become a team, that was the difference.

Life is no different.  We ...

Excuses

Excuses "Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do what they want to, when all they need is one reason why they can." -Willis R. Whitney

I hear excuses regularly, whether it is why people don't have enough time to exercise, why they can't eat healthy, they cannot afford Juice Plus+, and why they can't accomplish a myriad of other tasks that would be beneficial to their journey on this planet.  Although I am annoyed by these excuses, I do feel sorry for those who use them.  They are cheating their body and soul out of an improved quality of life, longevity, and emotional wholeness.

I would love to be able to help them see the folly of their ways, but using a 2x4 upside the head probably is not the right way to approach them.  In order to make an impact, I think that we need to raise our game, we need to not only work on our personal health, we need to work on the way we communicate and interact with people.

Here is a short list of things that I think can help us to reach out to people who use excuses:

1)  Ask Questions.  People zone and lose their ability to interact when they're given lectures, so why bother?  Instead, ask them lots of good questions that are about them, people love to talk about themselves.  Not only that, but people also like to solve their own problems, when you ask questions, you become a sounding board for them to figuring stuff out.  Ask questions that lead people to find the "one" reason why they CAN make things work for them.

2)  Be Enthusiastic.  Denis Waitley said, "Enthusiasm is contagious.  It's difficult to remain neutral or indifferent in the presence of a positive thinker."  Maintain a positive attitude around those people whom you are attempting to help, and they just may catch the bug.

3)  Make suggestions.  Be careful not to tell people how to live their...

Why I'm here

Why I'm here "The purpose of life is not to win. The purpose of life is to grow and to share. When you come to look back on all that you have done in life, you will get more satisfaction from the pleasure you have brought to other people's lives than you will from the times that you outdid and defeated them."
-- Rabbi Harold Kushner

The above quote is profound enough to stand on it's own, I do not need to fluffy it up or anything.  It's why I sell Juice Plus, even though I make more than enough in Real Estate.  It's why I teach people for free how to eat, how to exercise, how to live without regrets.  If you need somebody, I'm here.  If you have a question, I'll answer it the best I can.  If you have a victory, I'll celebrate it with you.  I'm not here to win, I'm here to grow and to share.

Eat More Fruits and Veggies!

Eat More Fruits and Veggies! I think of the cow holding the sign reading “Eat More Chicken” from Chick Fillet. I’m not a militant vegetarian, I eat the way I eat for health and personal reasons, and I will never criticize people for how they eat. If they want to eat chicken or beef, more power to them. However, this blog is pointed to vegetarians as much as the carnivores. When I first started being a vegetarian, I was not even close to eating the 9 to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables that the FDA recommends. So, to everyone, vegetarians too, I say, EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES!!!

But why? Countless studies prove that our bodies need many servings of fresh, uncooked produce. What’s more, it’s not a secret that the western diet sorely lacks a consistent stream of fruits and vegetables. Are you getting 9 – 13 fruits and vegetables a day in your diet? Unfortunately, even though I am sensitive to my bodies needs, it’s just not convenient to get that many servings a day, nor is it cost effective. Since I cannot get that many servings into my busy days, I supplement my diet with a “stop gap” measure, I take Juice Plus+.

What is Juice Plus+? Juice plus is a way to get 17 fruits and vegetables in the convenience of a capsule. But many may be wondering if it is effective, or just a gimmick and/or sales tactic to scare people into buying it. Fortunately, Juice Plus+ is the worlds most thoroughly tested supplement, having undergone over ten scientific studies! Credible studies too, double blind, placebo, and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals! Studies were conducted at such establishments as BYU, University of Arizona, University of Texas, University of Florida, Maryland, and Vanderbilt. If that doesn’t impress you, then maybe the eleven new studies currently underway at the University of Mississippi, UCLA/Georgetown, University of South Carolina, Yale University-Griffin Hospital Prevention Research Center, the University of Texas/MD Anderson Cancer, Center, and a...

Diet Tips for Those Wishing to Lose Weight

Diet Tips for Those Wishing to Lose Weight
Here are a few tips on food if you are trying to lose weight. If you combine a healthy diet with three days of moderate exercise, you can lose the fat pretty fast, gain some good muscle, and lose the dress sizes. You don't have to have a degree in exercise or nutrition to have success, you just need to put the right kind of calories into your body, while avoiding the wrong ones.

Foods to avoid:

All bread that contains flower (Ezekiel Bread has no flower in it)
All rice, white, brown, etc.
All Pasta, except Ezekiel pasta
All candy and sweets
Dressings for salad (see below)

Foods to go light on:

Dairy, especially cheese
light on condiments that go on sandwiches, hot dogs, and burgers, such as mayo, ketchup, mustard is fine though
Dark chocolate is fine, no more than one Hershey's kiss a day, or equivalent (gotta cheat ya know!)
Any and all cooked and/or processed food, fruits and veggies included
natural peanut butter
Canned tuna (mercury content keeps it at once to twice a week only)
Dressings: Vinegar and Oil, or light variations that have zero trans fat (look for ingredients list, ensuring no partially hydrogenated oils)
honey
baked potatoes, however, don't douse it in butter or sour cream, put "Spike" seasoning on it, or salt and pepper, and just a smidge of smart balance butter.

Eat all you want, whenever you want:

Raw fruits and veggies, especially spinach, broccoli, and cantaloupe
Hard boiled eggs
canned salmon, no mayo (doesn't have the worry about mercury content that tuna has)
Ezekiel bread (can't eat too much anyway, get full way too fast! hehe)
One Juice Plus+ Complete Smoothie a day to replace a meal, preferably dinner.
Juice Plus Capsules three times a day (Fruits, Veggies, and Vineyard)

Once you reach your target / goal weight, you can now ad...

procrastination - a lack of vision

procrastination - a lack of vision I was reading a blog by OldeButGoode here on fitconnect,  blogs.fitconnect.com/OldeButGoode/2008/7/21/DONT--PROCRASTINATE--, and that got me thinking about the causes of procrastination.  Attempting to motivate people is a good thing, but sometimes more may be needed.  I can imagine people reading and listening to motivation on procrastination, and then mind dumping about it five minutes later.

So my question is, why do people procrastinate, and maybe discovering the root causes will help people to stop procrastinating?  The thing that popped into my mind almost immediately, is that when I procrastinate, it stems from a lack vision.  King Solomon from, ancient Israel, had this to say about vision, "Where there is no vision, the people perish".  I wonder if he thought that they perished because of procrastination?  lol

When I don't want to do something, or it bores me, or I lack interest, it's because I fail to see the benefits in the long term.  I get into health and nutrition, because it's something that I can visualize.  I can visualize feeling great, I can visualize feeling attractive, I can visualize going to the doctor less.  With my company that invests in real estate, I had to do the same thing.  I had to visualize the long term benefits, even though I didn't have the money or knowledge to make the initial jump.  Once I had the vision, I set daily reminders of that vision on my wall.  I put sayings and pictures of how my life was going to be, and read and looked at them daily.  And while I'm still not there completely, I'm well on my way, and my peers in the industry agree.

Take a look at yourself as a 2D time line, and think of your mind as a 3D plane of space.  Hover over your 2D time line with your 3D mind and look at it, your life... look at your past, look at your present, and look at the future....

N8ball's Health tips

N8ball's Health tips I've often wanted to become a personal trainer and take classes on the subject, it's been a fascination of mine for years now. If I can't be a personal trainer, at least I can pass on some of my knowledge to those who are interested.

Eating right isn't about being thin, buff, or hot (ok, maybe hot), but it's about feeling good about yourself and being healthy. It's about maintaining a quality of life that keeps you out of the doctor's office and doing the things that you enjoy the most. And most importantly, it's about following through with loving and respecting yourself. This is all nice and fluffy and good, but most Americans aren't educated enough to do this throughout their lives. Education is the key to maintaining a healthy life style, and I plan on giving out a few of the most potent ones in this article.

Most people falsely believe that caloric intake is the biggest factor in maintaining a healthy life style. This is false in my opinion. My belief is that the biggest factor is nutritional value per calorie. I believe that you should be able to eat whenever you want without limiting yourself, without fad diets, etc., as long as you're eating the right kinds of foods and avoiding empty foods. A good site to check out is http://www.nutripoints.com, it can help you find the foods with the highest nutritional rating that you like.

1) You should be eating all the fresh fruits and vegetables that you desire, and avoid cooking them if you can. They have the perfect balance of vitamins and nutrients that you need. You can't eat too many fresh fruits and vegetables; they are very high on the nutrient per calorie scale. Particularly nutritious is cantaloupe, spinach, and broccoli.

2) Eat cereals that are organic and high in fiber and protein. Kashi has multiple cereals for under $3 a box at Wal-Mart now, there's no need to deposit your paycheck at the health food store for some good breakfast. Look at the picture...
