procrastination - a lack of vision

procrastination - a lack of vision I was reading a blog by OldeButGoode here on fitconnect,  blogs.fitconnect.com/OldeButGoode/2008/7/21/DONT--PROCRASTINATE--, and that got me thinking about the causes of procrastination.  Attempting to motivate people is a good thing, but sometimes more may be needed.  I can imagine people reading and listening to motivation on procrastination, and then mind dumping about it five minutes later.

So my question is, why do people procrastinate, and maybe discovering the root causes will help people to stop procrastinating?  The thing that popped into my mind almost immediately, is that when I procrastinate, it stems from a lack vision.  King Solomon from, ancient Israel, had this to say about vision, "Where there is no vision, the people perish".  I wonder if he thought that they perished because of procrastination?  lol

When I don't want to do something, or it bores me, or I lack interest, it's because I fail to see the benefits in the long term.  I get into health and nutrition, because it's something that I can visualize.  I can visualize feeling great, I can visualize feeling attractive, I can visualize going to the doctor less.  With my company that invests in real estate, I had to do the same thing.  I had to visualize the long term benefits, even though I didn't have the money or knowledge to make the initial jump.  Once I had the vision, I set daily reminders of that vision on my wall.  I put sayings and pictures of how my life was going to be, and read and looked at them daily.  And while I'm still not there completely, I'm well on my way, and my peers in the industry agree.

Take a look at yourself as a 2D time line, and think of your mind as a 3D plane of space.  Hover over your 2D time line with your 3D mind and look at it, your life... look at your past, look at your present, and look at the future.  Learn from your past mistakes, desire more than you have in the present, and see yourself as you want to be in the future.  Take those goals and write them out, put them on a vision board on your wall, and look at them every day.  Don't say "I want", say "I do" or "I am".  Reprogram yourself, and you will become.

So I'm not going to tell you to "stop procrastinating", I'm going to tell you to get a vision, a detailed one, and then remind yourself of it every day.  Once you believe the vision, the law of attraction kicks in and you become who you see yourself as, you create yourself anew.  I have used this principle in my life emotionally, financially, and physically, and it has worked every time.

So get a vision, and then become it!

runningbear Wow! This is SO insightful. I want to copy it, highlight major portions, and post it where I can see it - right next to my running shoes! Motivation is driven by small successes, so if you can see that you are making progress toward that goal you've visualized, it helps keep you going.

n8ball Thanks bunches! That's an important point, short term vision can be just as powerful as long term. Have an awesome weekend!

PureCanadian Nice blog, N8ball. Visualization is what gets me up reaaaally early to go to the gym every day. I visualize how great I feel after a hard workout and how it improves my mental/emotional state. If I miss a workout and procrastinate, I feel a loss of control for the whole day. My body feels tired and sluggish. My mental state is less strong. Vision is extremely powerful.
