I don’t think she’ll actsually break up with me, and that’s just a threat to encourage me to eat more.
Only in America, right?
Well, I’m ninety-seven and a half pounds, sixty-two and a half inches tall. That makes my BMI 17.7; underweight. And apparently I look very boney. I didn’t think so, but my mom, and my girlfriend, and all my friends, and everyone else says I’m really skinny, and need to gain weight. And then, I was talking to Brittany at school, and she said I needed to gain some weight. I was emailing her earlier, and she got really angry because I didn’t eat lunch, and don’t want to eat dinner…she says I have to hit a hundred pounds, and eat lunch everyday (she’s going to ask Greg if I’ve eaten) or she’ll break up with me…
But…I don’t like food…I don’t know why, but…food just seems gross to me. I don’t know how to compare it. Well, when I asked my mom why she didn’t eat breakfast, she said that even the idea of eating in the monring makes her want to throw up. That’s how I feel about all food. I drink stuff, but don’t eat much. And when my mom forces me to eat, I feel like I want to puke. It’s not like I’m really that concerned about my weight, it’s that I don’t like food.
I know this is really stupid. And you guys are probably going to say “Just eat!”
Well, I don’t want to lose Brittany, so…I guess I have to eat more…
Or…is there a way I can gain weight without eating?

I have a friend who is about 5'8" and is overweight. He jokes about his weight and talks about how he wants a new body. On one occasion he had a conversation with a personal trainer at the same gym I attend and asked why he could not lose weight. The trainer told him about his target zone, changing up his workout regimen and doing more strength training. Following all this advice he still was unable to lose weight.
I realized what his problem was when he met me for lunch one day. It was his food choices. He was working so hard to burn off all that fat but he added a large amount of fat back into his body during our meal. I did not say anything to him. Maybe I should have because I think he would understand and maybe he would change his eating habits.

Basketball in 100+ degree weather

Every Saturday I get together with some guys in the neighborhood to play hoops. We used to get together at 8am an play and that worked out pretty well from a conditioning standpoint. Lately, we have rescheduled the time to late afternoon when the day is at its hottest temperature. It is so hot that it becomes a game of last man standing. The good thing is that we have plenty of water and the bench at the side of the court which is located under a shade tree. Other than that there is no room to hide from the sun and the concrete gets so hot you can feel it through your shoes. We play to 11 points, best out of 3 games. This week my team lost all 3 games. Jason, our big guy, had an off game so I was doing most of the scoring but was a liability on defense. It was too hot to play defense. Working in the gym is fine for strength training but after 3 games in the sun I realize my cardio conditioning needs a lot more work. Pass the water its hot out there.
