Today I Reached a Running Milestone!
10/5/2008
Today I Reached a Running Milestone! I use a Nike+ shoe chip to track my running progress, and today I passed the 500 mile mark! I got my chip about mid-April of this year. In the past 6  months I've logged 93 runs, 77 hours of running time, and 34,834 calories burned. I've actually surpassed this. I didn't take my chip on vacation to log my beach running, I don't use it with my treadmill, and I wear my old running shoes (with no chip) when it's wet outside. Theoretically I shouild be able to run 1,000 miles a year....THEORETICALLY ; )
My true goal is to complete a women's triathlon next year. But first I need to find a decent road bike and start a NEW training venture!

Thanks. It really is fun. I've always loved running, but my new toy has really helped my motivation.

Wow, just...WOW! You are hitting it hard! It is awesome to move past goals such as weight and body fat percentage and just exercise for the sake being healthy, running races, and just having fun! Great job!

That actually happened to one of the women i swim with. She's done tris before, but this year she hadn't done any open water swimming. She got caught toward the front of the pack and struggled to keep up and yes, she was actually pulled under. It scared the um, you know, out of her and she wanted to share her experience so we'd learn from it. I think your idea to swim with a buddy while training is also immensely important. Thanks Plucky!

Hey that is awesome, congratulations! When you're out there running a few miles at a time, it's hard to believe it adds up like that. I think your idea to step it up with a triathlon is excellent - a lady I know just finished one and her story confirms that swimming in the open water is WAY different than in a lap pool, not to mention that you may have other swimmers going over the top of you. Her advice would be to get out in the lake for practice. And be sure to have someone along with you in a canoe or surfboard or at least a kickboard... Go for it!

You're welcome, runningbear! Good luck "bike shopping" and post a pic when you get it! :) Thanks for your comment on my running. I'm pretty impressed myself... Hey, it's ok to brag here, right? lol! I can't believe how much my life has changed... I've only started running in April and I've done 8 races already... (7) 5Ks and (1) 7K with another 5K on Nov. 1st. Next year's goal?? 10Ks and a better PR (I'm shooting for 25:30 sometime in '09). Wish me luck 'cuz I'll need it for sure.

As different as running on a treadmill vs. running outside? :)

Thanks! It's different swimming in open water though than it is to lap swim in a pool. I'll definitely need to prep myself for that.

Good luck on the Triathalon, Runningbear! I know you will kill 'em in the swim.
