Finally found time to get back in the Gym
1/16/2008
Finally found time to get back in the Gym The past few months have been extremely busy with preparation for our beta release, so I've been missing the gym a lot. It's been about 3 weeks since I was at the gym, and even then I was still pretty out of shape.

It's always depressing when you go to the gym after letting yourself get out shape. Lie down to bench what used to be a warm-up and all of a sudden it's a little bit of a struggle. You know not to even attempt what used to be your max, because your spotter will most likely have to help you more than he/she had expected. Getting back in shape is one of the most annoying things because you're doing tons of work just to get back to where you were half a year ago. It's not the same as when you're pushing to shoulder press more weight than you've ever done before or trying a new ab workout because you can't think of any other way to target your 8-pack.

Anyway, I started with chest, as I usually do when I first get back into the gym because it's my favorite. So today my chest is real soar, which is nice because I know I got a good work yesterday. It usually isn't hard to get soar first day back. I'm hoping I can keep up with going about 4 - 5 times a week like I used to. Anyone have any good advice for dealing with the mental frustration of working hard just to get back to what you used to be?

Good point rick... Workouts when you don't feel sore the next day (2 days after is actually the most sore) you feel like you accomplished nothing.

Hey ryan, I would say don't worry so much about stopping, I've also had my share of periods of inactivity, but instead of punishing yourself just think back on how you felt every time you accomplished something. I've heard that it takes years for men to lose muscle, so don't worry about that, I'm pretty sure your muscle is still there, it just needs to be reconditioned. Just don't psyche yourself out, and always reward yourself for reaching your goals.
