Please Don't Wear Crocs to the Gym The other day I was at the gym when a guy walked in sporting bright yellow crocs. Now, I’m not one to criticize people’s gym outfits, but if you’re really out of line, I’m going to have to make fun of you (on here at least). Crocs are stupid and should not be worn in public – especially not the gym!

What would possess someone to strap on a pair of Crocs to go to the gym? Aside from their stupid look, they are definitely not reliable as a gym shoe. They offer little or no support for your ankles.

Crocs should be banned from gyms

Two popular gym rules are “re-rack weights” and “wipe off equipment.” Well I’m adding another one to the top of the list. “Don’t wear Crocs and look like an idiot.”

ryan It's a sick world we live in buffgirl... Where gardening shoes have become a part of people's every day lives.

ryan Haha, great south park reference

buffgirl You are so right. Crocs should be banned from gyms. I can't believe you saw someone actually wearing them - then again, I'm shocked to see people over the age of 6 wearing them in public.

kettlebell27 Ugly, non-conforming, and downright What-the-Heck responses these Crocs get. Surprisingly, the people who made them don't care if they are ugly, non-conforming to public opinion, or if people who wear them get laughed at. As long as people keep buying them, the Crocs owners are sitting at home, probably in their Croc's, chilling away & counting their money.

Its like the South Park Episode where the Underpant Gnomes reveal their money-making formula:

1. Steal Underpants
2. ???????
3. Profit!

Indeed:
1. Make Ugly Shoes
2. ??????
3. Profit!

JimB I'll make one exception: Last summer I spent a weekend at the Jersey Shore and only brought sandals with me since I expected to be able to run barefoot on the beach every day. As it turned out it rained all weekend, so I stopped in at the local Golds and asked if I absolutely, positively had to wear sneakers to work out. The receptionist looked at me as if I was crazy. "Dude, this is the shore," he said. "You can work out barefoot if you want." So I wore my Tevas, and found them surprisingly comfortable, even running on the treadmill. I'll take the Tevas over Crocs any day.

crista They r the worst "shoe" ever invented. My gym would never have let them workout though. They are very strict with their rules

ozipherus Nobody with any sense of self respect, fashion, or any clue about gyms would wear these to a gym. I agree with MleighS84, if i saw that, i'd point and laugh. I'd laugh loud, and for a long time.

ryan Yea, I'm not sure why my gym permits these non-athletic and non-aesthetically pleasing "foot items"
ryan on 4/15/2008 in response to JimB Respond

ryan Haha dont worry about it... they are so NOT appropriate for the gym that it almost needs to be repeated
ryan on 4/15/2008 in response to runningbear Respond

runningbear Sorry. You mentioned the lack of support. Having a brain freeze today! It's snowing here again - grrr! Had a taste of spring this past weekend, but apparently Mother Nature wanted another laugh at our expense. Guess the 82+ inches of snow we had this winter wasn't enough. Sigh.
runningbear on 4/15/2008 Respond

runningbear Not only are they unattractive (ok, butt ugly), they can't possibly provide adequate foot support for working out. This past Monday morning, someone wore them into the pool locker room, and it had been raining. The squeak as she walked across the floor was pure torture!
runningbear on 4/15/2008 Respond

JimB I agree totally...Crocs are the ugliest footwear ever invented. Every gym I've ever gone to requires you to wear athletic shoes.
JimB on 4/15/2008 Respond

ryan sadly... yes

ryan on 4/15/2008 in response to MleighS84 Respond

MleighS84 ha ha - crocs - see i make fun of everyone who wears them regardless if they are at the gym or not - but i am def agree crocs are not gym acceptable shoes - if i ever see someone at the gym with them i think i might drop my weights, point and laugh hysterically
