Hilary Duff Workout and Diet Plan from US Weekly
Tags: hilary duff, celebrity fitness

Hilary Duff Workout and Diet Plan from US Weekly Hilary Duff, who's often videotaped by paparazzi when hitting the gym, boasts a healthy diet plan and great workout ethic.

Her every move is captured in a camera lens, which can be stressful if you're having a chubby day. Due to the fame, Hillary became obsessed with getting her body in perfect shape.

Hilary Lost Weight - That's Good Right?
Nope, she got criticized for that too. "Everybody speculates that you're not eating or are doing drugs. You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't," claims Duff. She dropped her strict protein and vegetable diet and leveled off to a perfectly mixed diet.

Hilary Duff's Diet
She added fruit to her protein and veggie diet. Here's an example of a typical day...

Breakfast
- Kashi cereal with 2 percent milk. Or, substitute egg whites with feta cheese.
- Latte with 2% milk.

Lunch
- Grilled chicken Caesar Salad mixed with 1 tbsp reduced fat dressing. Or, substitute Grilled ahi tuna instead of chicken.

Dinner
- 1 Grilled Tuna Steak (or try Citrus Tuna Steaks)
- Veggies
- Sometimes sushi (one of Hilary Duff's favorites)

Celebrity Snack Time
When snacking, Hilary eats some nuts (that doesn't sound good, but we'll leave it). Other favorite Hilary Duff snacks are apples, brie cheese. She slightly cheats the diet when she digs into some chips and salsa.

Working out with Hilary Duff
Being a former gymnast, Hilary watches out for "bulking" side effects of lifting. You know how gymnasts look like Oompa Loompas sometimes because they're so short and built? She tries to avoid that look.

"I couldn't just go to the gym like my friends and lift weights. I would get these muscles in my legs. I felt boyish."

While she does hit the gym often, she avoids heavy weight lifting. Her genes cause her to put on muscle easily. Instead, Hilary is big on Pilates...

Be a Successful Personal Trainer by Creating Walking Advertisements
Tags: pesronal trainers, fitness marketing

Be a Successful Personal Trainer by Creating Walking Advertisements Today I actually read a few blog entries that were unrelated to fitness, half because a FitConnect member recommended it to me and half because I need a break from reading about the 50 billion different ways to get 6 pack abs and burn fat. So I read up on some of Steve Pavlina's Personal Development for Smart People.

Now I'm not a fan of reading long articles (Stevie likes to ramble) but I somehow got hooked and read one or two of his posts to completion. If you decide to read one of his posts I recommend printing it out first, my eyes are a little sore as I write this - but some of his advice stood out to me, and I wanted to relate and recommend it to all you personal trainers and fitness professionals out there.

Steve was insistent upon letting everyone know that he's wealthy - which made me look down on his personality - but then, he threw in some words that caused me to pull a 180 on my judgement.

He said that "money is only a means to an end, not an end in itself. Making a positive contribution to the world is a lot more important to me than money. Money can be useful in achieving this objective, but human relationships are far more important. The funny thing is that the less I rely on money, the more of it I seem to have.”

Of course, I think most people would agree (although their behaviors probably don't support this notion) that making a positive contribution to society is a much more lasting reward than a monetary one. I agree as well - to an extent. I have to admit that if you sent me $1,000 that would probably put more of a smile on my face than saying "nice post."

Don't worry, "nice post" is still the socially acceptable method of tipping your blogger, don't feel pressured.

So how does any of this relate to Personal Training? Because personal training is a business with a strong emphasis on building relationships and helping people - yes, helping people. Bet you forgot th...

Fitness Advertising on Facebook
Tags: fitness ads, facebook fitness, facebook, penguins

Fitness Advertising on Facebook Health and Fitness advertisements are swamping the left column of my facebook page/browser/whatever you want to call it. What if I feel like seeing a non-fitness advertisement every once and a while?

Facebook's Advertising system allows advertisers to target you based on age, sex, region, and the biggy - keywords. Since I am obsessed with fitness, and I'm always fitness networking, my left column is always some picture of a ripped stomach and telling me that I can get 6-pack abs in 5 minutes.

It's kind of crazy how my initial interest in fitness makes me a target for NOTHING BUT fitness. With all of these targeted advertisement marketing engines that are being utilized by facebook and google, will we ever be exposed to something new? I admit, I'm big time into fitness and every once and a while I see a neat ad that I'm suckered into clicking - but eventually I get really sick of being told I should be on this new fad diet.

Is it just me, or does everyone else get mostly fitness advertisements as well?

Also, I have "penguins" listed as one of my interests on facebook... I thought it was funny when I got an "Adopt a Penguin ad" - gotta love targeted advertisements.

I named him Pablo.

7 Tips to Save Face if your Body isn’t Beach-Ready
Tags: beach body, fitness top lists

7 Tips to Save Face if your Body isn’t Beach-Ready Summer is a stressful time for people who are self conscious about their body. Hopefully, you’ve already prepared for this near naked season by sticking to your fitness goals.

If you’re like most people, however, you probably haven’t.

Don't worry, you can still enjoy the summer weather - you just have to improvise.

Here are some Tips if you’ve let your Beach Body slip:

1. Get Started Now – Yes, Summer has arrived and you’re way behind on getting a killer beach body, but that doesn’t mean you should give up. This should be inspiration to really kick it in gear and eat healthy while working out consistently throughout the week.

2. Don’t Get Crazy – It can be alarming when you step out on the beach for the first time and realize your body is not at all what it used to be. Sometimes people panic and do crazy things in desperation, such as starve themselves or start an unhealthy Fad Diet. Check out RunningBear’s advice on how to spot a Fad Diet.

3. Avoid Carbonation during Beach Days – It often bloats the stomach, which can cause your belly to look bigger than it really is.

4. Maintain Good Posture – A big part of how your body looks is based on your posture. Don’t let your belly jut out and keep your back straight to look healthier and skinnier.

5. Get a Good Pump Guys – Push ups are the best way to get a good pre-beach pump. Do several sets of push ups before dipping off to the beach and you’ll look a lot more muscular than you usually do.

6. Keep Clothes on While Sitting – Have you noticed that stomach’s rarely look very good when you’re sitting down? It’s because all of the fat and skin throughout your stomach is squished together, and rarely looks attractive. If you’re self conscious, stay clothed until your ready to lie down or walk on the beach.

7. Don’t Do Sit Ups Before the Beach – I mentioned above that push ups are great for gett...

Focus on Weight Loss Sacrifices: The Smart Way
Tags: weight loss, fitness goals, dieting, time management

Focus on Weight Loss Sacrifices: The Smart Way One of the hardest things about losing weight is that it involves sacrifice. If you want to lose weight, you're going to have to give up something.

Whether it's sweets, red meats, TV time, or soft drinks - you're going to say goodbye (or most likely, see ya later) to something you enjoy. What you decide to give up is what usually shapes your entire weight loss gameplan. Most people have several unhealthy habits that could be gotten rid of. In order to lose weight, we usually don't have to give up all of them, so we pick and chose.

Choosing what to sacrifice is key... And the obvious choice might be the wrong one!

I mentioned above how most people have several unhealthy habits, but only need to sacrifice one of them. What does almost everyone do? They focus on the one that is the biggest part of their life. They focus on the unhealthy habit that sticks out the most. A person with a sweet tooth gives up chocolate and a tv-aholic denounces their boob-tube.

Makes sense at a glance right?

If you're trying to create a weight loss plan that you can stick to, it is terribly wrong. Why would you take the one thing you love and can't live without (candy, television, whatever it is) and give it up? Most likely, you will do great the first week, cheat the second, and give up on the third or fourth. Not to mention that you'll probably be miserable after giving up your favorite food or lazy hobby.

Get rid of something you can do without

Generally, to lose weight, you will have to sacrifice types of food or lounge time. Instead of focusing on the most obvious problem, focus on the ones you can afford to sacrifice.

Here's an Example:
Stewie loves soft drinks and absolutely hates diet soda. He drinks soda throughout the day at work. He knows he's consuming a lot of calories throughout the day, but he finds it helps him stay in a better mood while nine-to-fiving (excuse me, ...

Even Matthew McConaughey's Body Fades
Tags: celebrity fitness, matthew mcconaughey

For those who are struggling to keep up with their beach body, don't think you're the only one with the problem. Even celebrities like Matthew McConaughey, who have no responsibilities other than doing a movie every few years, have trouble sticking to their beach body.

Matthew McConaughey, who is well known for running around on the beach with his shirt off and thinking he's cool, was recently photographed not looking all that great. He seems to have lost his six pack (side note, his hair looks all kinds of messed) and although his body isn't terrible, it's not how it used to be.

Here's a picture of what Matthew McConaughey looks like now:

Here's an older picture of Matthew McConaughey:

So if you're getting all depressed because your belly isn't looking as great as it used to, just know that Matthew McConaughey's having the same problems.

Now we have to find out what Diet and workout Matthew McConaughey is on so that we can know what NOT to do to achieve our fitness goals.

First Look at Getting in Shape with Nintendo Wii
Tags: nintendo wii, wii fitness, wii fit

First Look at Getting in Shape with Nintendo Wii Finally got ahold of a Nintendo Wii and I’m anxious to see how they can assist you in your fitness and weight loss goals. I bought the Wii Fit as well – which gives your fitness a boost – but I haven’t had time to get that set up yet.

For now, I just checked out the basic Wii System

I played the Wii Sports game that accompanied the console, and “simple, but fun” is the best way to describe it. The graphics are poor but the idea behind the gameplay is very fun – and very active.

Since boxing is my favorite sport ever, I tried out the boxing mini-game. Although it was a little too easy to just keep punching away at the guy, it gives you a great cardio workout. It’s fun too. I tried out several of the other games, like tennis, golf, and baseball, and they were also pretty entertaining.

The Baseball and Golf games only provided a small workout, but the tennis was pretty active. I found myself jumping back and forth, back handing and mixing up how hard I would hit the ball – it was a fun way to mix in a workout.

Overall, I think the Wii is great for people who get bored with cardio workouts. The boxing will give you just as good of a workout as using an elliptical – and it’s a lot more entertaining.

I’ll be setting up the Wii Fit and purchasing more games soon. Expect more Wii Fitness posts in the near future.

Catch up on Fitness this Memorial Day Weekend
Tags: holiday fitness, goals, fitness goals, fitness planning

Catch up on Fitness this Memorial Day Weekend Memorial Day Weekend is finally here and we can all enjoy a three day weekend. Most of us are looking forward to some boozing and hanging out with friends - and traveling if you're not phased by the screwy gas prices.

You could use this extra day off to jump-start your fitness goals!

If you don't have much planned this weekend, definitely spend time planning out your health and fitness goals (if it's important to you... I imagine it is because you're on this site). This vacation is an excellent way to get back on track and really gear up for bathing suit weather. By the way, if you're just starting to think about getting a bathing suit bod now, you're a little behind schedule... but it's not too late.

Am I saying you should spend all weekend on a treadmill?
No... In fact, maybe just throw one or two workouts in this holiday weekend. But, there's several things you can do to get your health life back on track.

1. Take advantage of the extra time and get in a solid workout - it'll feel good. A lot of times we're squeezing our workouts in between work and dinner time. This weekend gives a great opportunity to get every last set in.

2. Sit down and re-plan you goals - Now that you're aware that it's finally beach weather, analyze if your body is where you want it to be. Either way, whether you're happy with the bod or not - set new goals on maintenance or improvement.

3. Catch up on Life - I mentioned earlier that you're probably squeezing in your workouts. Mainly because we still have lots of tasks on our "To Do" list that we don't have time to do. Get them done this weekend and they won't take away from your workout time next week.

That being said... Also do your best to have fun - cause that's probably important for mental health and stuff.

iPhone Fitness Blogging
Tags: iphone fitness, iphone blogging

Smartphones like the iPhone have been revolutionizing the Internet and have the potential to do the same for the health and fitness industry. While some suggest that tracking workouts at the gym is useful with the iPhone, I'm hesitant to get into that because think my workouts would take double the time if I had to type after each set. For those interested - fitconnect will soon have this feature.

But I'll try fitness iPhone blogging
I recently bought an iPhone an the web browse feature is great. I'm testing right now by writing this blog via iPhone. Maybe now I'll be able to share fitness advice on the go or while I'm sitting on the train.

I've noticed some disadvantages of iPhone blogging - as I write this.
1. The iPhone keypad is great - especially if you use horizontal screen - but it still is way slower than typing.
2. I cant upload images via browser FTP. Thus, I'll have to add images later when I get home.
3. It's harder to research topics in separate browsers because switching browsers is more tedious with the iPhone.
4. Can't copy and paste - or if you can, I haven't figured out how to do it.

iPhone blogging still has its perks
1. Convenient to kill time if you're bored somewhere.
2. You can blog about fitness thoughts before you forget them. Example: if you go to the gym in the morning, think of some exercise advice, you can type up a tip or blog on your iPhone at work- if your work blocks your internet or you dont work by a computer.
3. When your done blogging your fitness thoughts on an iPhone you feel much prouder of your iPhone keying abilities. And you'll now be a faster text messager - which can really help when you get a text message from your girlfriend saying "who is Bambi and why is she calling for you?"

Save the Boozing for After your Workouts
Tags: alcohol and fitness, pre-workout

Save the Boozing for After your Workouts If you're reading this, you probably have an interest in working out - and most likely, you do some boozing in your free time as well. Unless you were born yesterday, you understand that it's not smart to mix the two (exercising and getting drunk). We're all aware that drinking messes with your motor skills and will decrease performance and possibly lead to injury.

What if I just have one drink and then wait a few hours?
While it's obviously stupid to exercise while drunk, something not as obvious is dehydration. A typical drinker can have a beer or two and a few hours later they're perfectly fine to drive or anything else. But, the dehydration effect from drinking still lasts. Dehydration can have a negative impact on your workouts performance and productivity.

So if you know you're going to the gym later in the day, maybe you should skip out on those happy hour drinks. Or possibly just go for the nachos and have a glass of water - not as fun, but at least you'll still perform well in the gym.

Can't live without happy hour drinks?
I recommend switching your gym schedule so that you workout in the morning. If you exercise in the morning (you can do without the morning bloody mary) you'll have time to rehydrate yourself throughout the day. Then you can drink yourself silly at happy hour without having to worry about a gym visit until the next morning - which should give you sufficient time to rehydrate.

I like fitness and drinking - let's try to make them work together.

Anorexia Causes People Magazine to Bypass Mary-Kate Olson in Most Beautiful People List
Tags: eating disorders, celebrity fitness

Anorexia Causes People Magazine to Bypass Mary-Kate Olson in Most Beautiful People List People Magazine recently released their list of the most beautiful people and Ashley Olson was featured toward the top. Mary-Kate, her younger sister (by 2 hours), did not make the list.

But they look identical
Although Mary-Kate and Ashley were able to fool us all into thinking Michelle Tanner was played by one person, they're "identicalness" has slightly faded. While Ashley is really skinny, Mary-Kate is downright skin and bones.

Over-doing the Skinniness
In my opinion, the primary reason that Ashley graced the charts and Mary-Kate took a beating is due to Mary-Kate's anorexic binges which climaxed in 2005. Her face looks bony and frail. She almost looks like she has a disease. I feel bad being so critical, but she's ruined her look (she made the choice).

Skinnier isn't always better
This silent statement by People magazine shows that skinnier is not always more attractive. When looking to lose weight, be sure that your weight loss goals have an ending point. Getting caught up with being skinnier and skinnier can become an obsession, a sickness. Once you reach your weight loss goal, set a different goal toward maintaining your new body.

The future for Mary-Kate
Hopefully this public diss by People Magazine will cause Mary-Kate to wake up and realize that if she puts on a few pounds she'd be a lot more attractive.

Halle Berry Burns Pregnancy Fat in 6 Weeks with the 5 Factor Diet
Tags: celebrity fitness, dieting

Halle Berry Burns Pregnancy Fat in 6 Weeks with the 5 Factor Diet It has only been six weeks since Halle gave birth to a little berry and she's already slimmed down to her old body. At the age of 41, she's managed to change herself from a Pregnant Bohemith, to a Hot Mom - in just six weeks.

How did Halle slim down?
First off, while she was pregnant, she didn't let herself become a whale. She obviously wasn't going crazy at the gym, but she still managed to keep up with some of her fitness routines. She stayed active with yoga, swimming, and lifting light weights - along with a healthy diet. She had a cool fitness plan too.

The 5-Factor Fitness Plan
The plan was developed by Harley Pasternak and involves both exercise and dieting. Although I don't know all the secrets of the 5-factor fitness plan, I've heard it's a very easy plan to follow - I would have expected Halle to do something more difficult, but whatever. The 5-Factor Fitness Plan involves a 25 minute exercise program that should be performed 5 times a week. That's only a little more thatn 2 hours of exercise a week - but it worked for her.

For dieting, the 5-Factor Fitness Plan involves 5 meals per day (Harley's favorite number must have been 5). One cool thing about the plan is that there's no carb counting, point tracking, or crazy tracking that gets you all flustered. Some people like diets like that, but some don't. This is for someone who doesn't like tracking. Most the meals involve healthy proteins, low glycemic carbs, fiber, and omega 3s.

Recommend the 5-Factor Fitness Plan?
I'm undecided. I haven't tried the plan, so I won't give it my recommendation, but it could work for some people. It's best to read up on tons of fitness and diet plans and find one that you could easily fit into your lifestyle.

If you want to try it out, you can go to 5factordiet.com - It's not a commission link and I don't have any deal with the creator, but I figured it'd be dumb to explain the ...

Mariah Carey’s Diet Works Wonders
Tags: celebrity fitness, dieting

Mariah Carey’s Diet Works Wonders Mariah Carey’s body is back and looking just as good as it did in her prime. How did she do it? She invented her own diet.

There’s nothing magical to the Mariah Carey Diet – it’s actually quite a cinch. All you have to do is eat only a small portion of anything you consume. You can eat whatever you want, to some extent, you just can’t eat a lot of what you want.

How small are these portions we’re talking about?

Pretty freakin small buddy… No more than a forkful of each food. Meaning, your serving of chocolate for the day is the amount of chocolate you can fit on your normal sized fork. No, don’t go stick a fork in both pieces of a twix bar and act like that’s ok – that’s cheating.

So just how well does this diet work?

Well, she lost a whopping 32 lbs. – although she probably exaggerated. My guess is she lost about 25 lbs. in reality. Regardless, have you seen her body lately? She’s amazing (once again).

I give her a lot of credit for coming up with her own little diet plan. Many stars take the easier road and have the most scientific nutritionist come up with a super plan. I like how she figured out something simple that just works for her.

Will this diet work for you?

Maybe not, but I’d recommend giving it a shot. Everyone’s different. Some people can do without certain parts of their edible life, while others would rather just focus on exercise more. Some could do a low carb diet no problem, while others would simply die if they couldn’t eat their mother’s lasagna.

It’s all about finding the right strategy for you. Mariah did it, and wow, look at her now.

Fergie slims down with Vinegar Shots
Tags: vinegar shots, fergie, celebrity fitness

Fergie slims down with Vinegar Shots Apparently, Fergie is getting “Vinelicious” in her attempts at losing weight and getting a lean, flat belly. The pop-star accredits taking shots of vinegar with her recent weight loss success.

Supposedly, the vinegar shots aid as appetite suppressants. I’ve never tried it, but I imagine taking shots of vinegar would make you lose the desire to consume anything else – so perhaps these statements are true.

“I do vinegar shots. It has to be organic apple cider, unfiltered. Two tablespoons. For some reason I've noticed a difference on my stomach” – Fergie swears these apple vinegar shots are the key weapon in achieving her flatter stomach. She also claims that the vinegar shots are great at cleansing the body.

How did she get the idea to start taking vinegar shots? She learned about this weight loss tip from a very credible source, Natasha Kufa – who is a well known personal trainer in the pop-music community. She claims that vinegar flushes out fat in the colon and helps the body digest food.

So should we all hop on the vinegar shot diet?

I’d say it’s a toss up on whether it works or not. Although Natasha Kufa probably knows a great deal about getting in shape, I’ve found sources stating vinegar has no effect on the body – other than a bad smell and taste. Maybe we’ll check up with Fergie a few months down the road and see if her honeymoon stage of her Vinegar Shot Diet is over yet. Then we’ll probably get some better answers.

Planet Fitness Finds the perfect way to Fill the Judgement Free Niche
Tags: gyms, planet fitness, gym communities

Planet Fitness Finds the perfect way to Fill the Judgement Free Niche Finding successful niche markets is the new fad in marketing techniques lately. Competition is so strong that now the average consumer expects you to cater to their exact specific need. Planet Fitness created a great business model in order to fulfill The Judgement Free Niche.

It’s common knowledge that many people (men and women) feel uncomfortable entering a testosterone factory like some Powerhouse Gyms or Gold’s. It’s tough if you’re just a buck / 20 with stringy little arms and pudgy stomach to get a satisfying workout when you have Meathead Magee benching more than the weight of your entire family combined.

But what can you do to stop that? Curves came up with a strict ban on anyone with a penis entering their fitness center – which was a genius idea and created the most successful gym chain in the world by providing a comfortable place for women to workout.

But what about guys who want to get in shape without being embarrassed when they’re curling 10 lbs? Or what if you’re a girl who doesn’t want a guy-free zone, but doesn’t want to catch hepatitis from a stray steroid needle?

Simple, you join your local Planet Fitness – The Judgement Free Zone.

How did they create a Judgement Free Zone? They didn’t ban big muscles, they just created and environment that ego-lifters wouldn’t enjoy. No, they don’t have non-stop Hanson music playing and flowers all over the place – it’s actually a pretty hip environment.

Planet Fitness only has dumbbells going up to 75 lbs – still heavy enough for an adequate workout, but not the kind of weight that Ronnie Coleman would be satisfied with. That’s not to say that there’s no muscle in Planet Fitness – there certainly is. In fact, I recently checked in at the Planet Fitness in my area and they had a huge guy working there who actually trains with NFL football players. He knows that he can still get a good workout utilizing different methods with lower wei...

Big Booty Fitness with Kim Kardashian
Tags: celebrity fitness, kim kardashian

Big Booty Fitness with Kim Kardashian I’m sure you’re all familiar with the Reality TV star, Kim Kardashian’s butt… And maybe you’ve actually watched her lame show too. For those few who aren’t aware of her existence, she’s a curvy girl with a big butt and shapely hips.

She’s also featured in some risqué videos that got leaked (yes, she joined the Paris Hilton club). Sadly, we can’t share those videos on here, but I’ve seen some clips, and she seemed to be burning some calories throughout the video.

Anyway, recently I came across a blurb regarding her fitness philosophy and I also found a video clip of her working out (PG rated this time).

“I like my shape, but to get rid of cellulite I focus on toning, doing martial arts on a treadmill. And Spanx are my best friend!” – Kim Kardashian according to AOL News.

Now, you might think it was a typo on my part where I say “martial arts on a treadmill” but it really says that if you visit AOL News. So there’s several possibilities.

1. It’s a typo on AOL News Part
2. She confused “martial arts” with “running” – wouldn’t surprise me
3. Kim’s workout routine consists of roundhouse kicks and judo chops - all while maintaining a level 4.3 footspeed at a level 8 incline on the treadmill.

You’ll have to draw your own conclusions because I couldn’t find the answer from browsing google. In my own mind, I’m just going to assume she actually engages in an all out martial arts combat training while running on a treadmill – quite impressive.

Perhaps the next big MMA even will be Kimbo Slice vs. Kim Kardashian – and my money’s on Kardashian if there’s any treadmills involved.

So aside from Treadmills, what else is Kim doing to maintain that large caboose? Butt pinches – I’m not sure what the real name is, but I just posted a video of her performing them: http://fitclips.fitconnect.com/36

So if some of you girls, and some guys, are looking to incr...

6 Time Saving Tips During Gym Workouts
Tags: time management, female fitness

6 Time Saving Tips During Gym Workouts I've been really busy lately and like most people, I've been finding trouble getting in a good workout at the gym with the short amount of time I have. So instead of cutting out my daily trip to the gym, I spent some time during my lunch break at work searching for time saving ideas. I wanted to look for some ways that I can spend less time at the gym, while still getting a satisfying workout.
